in this crazy life of ups and downs, it is important to ... sit. sip. savour. best done with good friends, good wine ... and do not forget the cheese!

dinner at PLAY
there is a fabulous group of ladies that I 'hang' with - most of us have known each other since our teen years working at summer camp for underprivileged children. (2 of these ladies are my younger sisters, Linda & Vicky.) we've picked up a newish habit - dining out together ... well, if you're going to have a habit, this is a good one to have.
our latest venture out was play FOOD & WINE ... and we were not disappointed. some of us paired off to share dishes from the MENU. I was sharing with Nathalie and Erin: BEEF TARTARE, GNOCCHI & 5 SELECTION CHEESE PLATE with not a morsel left. if memory serves, Erin declared BEEF TARTARE to be her new favourite food. hi5 Erin!
I wish I had noted what the others were eating but I was too busy eating. I did catch glimpses (and the odd taste) of GRILLED HANGER STEAK, LOCAL MUSHROOMS ON TOAST and BRAISED SQUID. perhaps they will kindly share their menu selections in "comments" below.
Nathalie and I shared a bottle of CARMENÈRE ALPACA, CHILE 2009: it was fresh & fruity, pleasantly matching varieties of food. a lovely choice by our Sommelier/Server.
and for dessert - MAPLE PANNA COTTA with SHERRY SWEET CREAM, GONZALEZ BYASS, SPAIN. perfect pairing. perfect end to a scrumptious meal. me thinks the ladies will be back to PLAY. I know I will have to return to try the CHOCOLATE PATÉ.
now if the ladies would kindly share their selections ...
bottoms up!

ADDENDUM ...
Mel: "we enjoyed the mushrooms on toast, gnocchi (oh so good), halibut (yum!), meatballs & cheeses (5 selections and all very good - one of my fav blues, really mellow & creamy). Looking forward to doing it again!"
Linda: "I had the squid and panna cotta with their wine pairings" - suggested wine pairings were ANDELUNA TORRONTES with BRAISED SQUID + GONZALES BYASS SWEET CREAM SHERRY served with the MAPLE PANNA COTTA.
